    Republican Positioning for 2012

The race for the Republican nomination for a election candidate to challenge President Barack Obama in 2012 will probably be over within fourteen months at the most. Accordingly the race is beginning to take shape. At this time there are probably significantly more election candidates exploring the possibility of a campaign, considering the race or trying to figure out whether or not they can win the nomination and the election, so the field of election candidates will probably get smaller over the next six months.

The Republican race for the nomination has the potential to be extremely entertaining and much more open with a far greater degree of uncertainty than any recent Republican nomination battle. It also has the potential to have an impact on the Republican Party for the next decade or so. The race is unusual, for a Republican primary, because there is no clear front runner who would otherwise be the favorite for the nomination.

By this time in the 2008, 2000, 1996 election cycles and most other years when there was no incumbent seeking the Republican nomination, there was already a clear front runner who went on to win the party’s nomination. In 2007, John McCain faltered a little bit, lending some drama to the race, but he nonetheless secured the nomination without much trouble. The closest thing to a front runner this year is Mitt Romney, but despite coming in second in the race for the nomination in 2008, Romney lacks the insider status or big advantage in name recognition that would make him a true front runner.

The absence of a clear front runner has encouraged numerous politicians, and at least one non-politician, to begin to explore a bid for the nomination. The breadth, and in some respects absurdity of this field, is striking. It includes Mitt Romney, a businessman turned liberal governor turned right wing ideologue, Newt Gingrich, a scandal plagued 1980s-1990s futurist, Haley Barbour, a former governor of Mississippi and chair of the RNC who would not have looked out of place railing against desegregation half a century ago, Mike Huckabee, a friendly sounding but often frightening preacher turned politician, Sarah Palin whose media savvy should not be underestimated, Michele Bachman who seems to take a sophomoric joy in saying every provocative and radical thought that pops into her head, Donald Trump a real estate developer, television personality and blowhard all rolled into one and many more and Tim Pawlenty who looks like the normal viable election candidate on paper, but has failed to break through more broadly.

The individual election candidates in the field obscure the probably more significant issue that the Republican Party is increasingly difficult to unify behind a single election candidate or single guiding vision. For decades the Republican Party has struggled to unify their three major ideological bases, social conservatives, wealthy and corporate interests and foreign policy hawks, particularly at the elite level, behind one election candidate. Only President Ronald Reagan, and to a lesser degree, President George W. Bush were genuinely successful at doing this. Today, however, that task is considerably more difficult.

There are now significant fissures within each of these group. The libertarian and social conservative wing of the party are beginning to clash not just over domestic issues, but over foreign policy issues as well. Libertarians are calling for a more isolationist foreign policy, while social conservatives still want an active interventionist policy with a large global US presence. In other policy areas, growing concern about the deficit among some voters is not compatible with the long held Republican Party goal of making rich people richer through tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.

These policy differences are reinforced by cultural differences within the party. The celebration of ignorance and rumor, and corresponding contempt for real knowledge and education which has come to characterize the Tea Party movement is very off-putting for more moderate Republicans whose voters are still needed in general elections. The strong Christian character of the party similarly does not sit well among non-Christians, secular conservatives and others who remain important to the party.

A strong and charismatic election candidate could still unify this increasingly disparate party, but there is nobody in the current field who comes close to fitting this description. Instead, the campaign could be a long one with three or four election candidates managing to hold on to one segment of the electorate long enough to keep their candidacies alive as no front runner or unifying force emerges. While this may result in a long drawn out campaign as the more colorful, but less viable election candidates drop to the sidelines, it also opens up the possibility for a smart election candidate to position him or herself differently and win the nomination by opening up new political space. A election candidate who could draw on different parts of the fracturing Republican coalition, perhaps by running as the anti-war, deficit hawk social conservative, or the anti-Wall Street fundamentalist interventionist would be able to succeed in this way given the size and breadth of the field and pose a more serious threat to President Obama in 2012. Accordingly, this nomination may, in fact, still be won by the election candidate who is willing to take a few risks and reinvent the Republican coalition.

    18 VIE for Harman Seat

Secretary of State Debra Bowen, a Marina del rey Democrat and L.A. 15th District Councilwoman Janice Hahn, a San Pedro Democrat are seen as front runners. Marcy Winograd, a Santa Monica school teacher and antiwar activist also has power, running twice against Harman in prior elections, taking 41 percent of the vote last year and 38 percent before. Harman has experience in defense and intelligence committee memberships, hardly dovish posts.

Good Day. Has anyone you know use the phrase ”Believe Me” or ”Why Me” or ”I told You So”? Does the phrase imply that the person has some kind of special wisdom or knowledge? Struggling with misfortunes anyone? I often find that these people are jaded with many misfortunes in their lifes. Most are quick to anger, quick to judge, quick to use unspeakable words about others and even their loved ones. Does this sound like anyone you know? Good then I’m in the right place.

I Believe all of us can make the right choice, if we believe we can and trust Gods Wisdom. Did you know some Pastors believe Heaven is a planet. Did you know the bible talks about 3 heavens. Can we really heal our loved ones from sickness and addictions the bible says we can.

    ”Civil Rights”

Most of us are familiar with ”Bill of Rights”, i.e. the first 10 ammendments to the constitution which as written subsequent to the Revolutionary war. The citizens of this nation wanted to be insured of proctection against a tyrannical government.
They were written by our forefathers in a rather succinct manner which gives modern courts much leeway when interpreting these rights.

This brief will be centered on the 1st ammendment rights.

Recently, the supreme court decided to uphold an appeal by an anti-homosexual church group (Westboro Baptist Church). The original suit was brought against them by a father of a Marine who was killed in Iraq in 2006. The father (Synder) was upset because this church, led by Pastor Fred Phelps, protested during a funeral for Snyder’s son and causing Snyder considerable agony. His son was not a homosexual, but this group chose this funeral as a way of attempting to tell society that God is punishing us for tolerating homosexuals. Could it be that Reverend himself is homophobic? Most of his followers are family members and friends.

The police in this case, kept the church group 1,000 feet from the site of the funeral and the church obeyed these instructions.

If one reads the first ammendment it appears to me that it was written to give citizens the right to assemble and to meet as an association without fear of arrest and inmprisionment. This clearly relates to the recent occupation of the British army where the colonists had to meet secretly in churches and homes. They did not desire, nor was their intent, to riot. I further believe that the authors of the ammendment did not want freedom of speech to be accompanied by violent, boisterious or tumultuous outbursts intending to incite others. Boisterious is defined as, ”Turbulent or exuberent”. Tumultuous means, ”Violent agitation of mind and feeling”.

My question is now is why did this Pastor Phelps choose the funeral of a fallen Marine to demonstrate God’s wrath against our society’s acceptance of homosexuals? Aren’t we all God’s children? I don’t believe my God is angry enough to punish a Marine who dies fighting for his beliefs in his country, thereby defending our way of life and the Pastor’s 1st ammendment rights!!

I think this church needs to target gay rights and other similar activities if that’s truly where their direction is. Most people are aware of who they are and what they represent so they should contain their efforts to their fervent cause and not be so disruptive and irreverent to people saying goodbye to their loved ones.

People die everyday. There are Christian homosexuals (believe it or not Pastor Phelps) that also have funerals. Do you get my drift Pastor?

Summarily, I strongly object to allowing this type of assembly so near the proximity of thoses giving their final farewells to one of our fallen servicemen.

I do not believe our forefathers had this type of assembly in mind when they wrote the Bill of Rights. If our ancestors came back to life and reviewed this case I’m sure they would have some critical words for our supreme court. They would advise the court to reveal definitive ground rules so our law enforcement personnel and lower courts would have something tangible with which to adhere.

Is it a violation of this church’s rights to ask them to assemble prior to or subsequent to the funeral service? Or would it be possible to distance themselves so as they do not cause a disturbance to members attending the funeral?

My take on this case is that the assembly was not done in a peaceful manner but done inappropriately, attempting to incite and possibly disrupt the funeral service.

If a precedent had been established prior to this case then law enforcement officials would have been able to set boundaries.

Location and time are not impeding freedom of speech or assembly. It only makes the protest more peaceful and civil, which are reasons why the 1st ammendment was written in the first place.

ElectionCandidates.com The newly launched first social political networking utility, ElectionCandidates.com based in Torrance, Ca, could well be the one that positively affects a nation’s or indeed the World’s politics.

The site serves 50 states and can be followed in 80 languages, with every member capable of his own blog and delivery of every political candidates’s campaign video. That goes for President Barrack Obama and opponents in the 2012 election right down to candidates for Alderman in New England villages. The watchword is respect and civility and discourse.

ElectionCandidates.com sell nothing, aside from special ad space and free ad space for some.

Research of social utility networking sites and studies into their origins and growth supports the premise many have morphed into money making ventures separate from their inherent value as means to reach millions almost instantaneously.

ElectionCandidates.com is specifically the First Political Social Utility founded purely for that purpose, though many websites around the world were established with expectation they would facilitate political discussion and discourse.

ElectionCandidates.com aims to be the Facebook of Political Communication.

”When I tell people people about ElectionCandidates.com, I generally hear two words Wow And Wow, says Hite. Hite says it took 2 years to research and develop this project. We welcome all election candiates to get involved and start connecting with our voters and start campaigning early with ElectionCandidates.com.. Art V.

Hite argues that, as Facebook and Twitter ramp up their political focus ahead of 2012, Election Candidates.com can compete directly by becoming ”the first political social network”

We are growing quickly, says Hite. ”As we advertise and market more over the next couple of months, we will find that relevancy.” He adds that the site’s generic, non-partisan feel lends creditablity to upstart candidates and levels the playing field for candidates facing campaigns that are viewed as inevitable juggernauts.

DIABETES, OVERWEIGHT SPIKE IN SO. CAL. HAS RECESSION LINK, OBAMACARE WILL HELP

    By Arthur R. Vinsel

Diabetes and juvenile obesity have spiked in Southern California and its South Bay region the past two years and health authorities blame the recession in large part, though other factors contribute.

People on curtailed incomes are relying more on high starch and carbohydrate groceries than fresh, lean meats, fruits and vegetables from full-service big box retail grocers and farmers’ markets. Moreover, the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards replacing food stamps are increasingly accepted by fast food outlets, the same as debit cards.

Food Stamps could not be used for ready-to-eat, in-store prepared meals or snacks, intended instead for staple goods cooked and served in low-income households. On the other hand, under certain circumstances, a family of four with $88,000 annual income can still qualify for EBT aid. As of 2009, food assistance was received by 14.4 percent of households, compared to only 6.6 percent in 2001, before the recession.

Children who are only overweight or seriously obese stands at 35.3 percent. Sixty-seven percent ate fast food at least once a week and said they’d consumed two or more sugared soft drinks in the previous 24 hours.

Their exercise is likewise minimal, with physical education classes dropped by the public schools and 40 percent watched three to four hours of TV on weeknights. Weekends, 86.6 percent watched 20 hours of TV or more.

The childhood obesity issue was brought into focus.

These are the findings of the UCLA-based California Health Interview Survey which sampled 50,000 responses, many–for the first time–through cell phone responses. The telephonic checkup occurs every two years.

”But the more research that is done, the more complicated it gets,” said David Grant, the survey director.

The South Bay survey area polled included Long Beach as well and thus takes in affluent regions of the Palos Verdes Peninsula as well as lower income communities with a higher per capita ratio of Hispanics, en ethnic group with historically greater rates of diabetes.

Researchers predicted President Obama’s Affordable Care for All (ACA) program will help if it is not repealed or so altered before 2014 by partisan tampering, bringing health insurance to two-thirds of seven million California persons or households now without it.

This would shift the burden of health care from hospital emergency rooms to patients of clinics offering preventive programs such as nutritional counseling and supervised weight loss plans.

About Initiatives: Often referred to as ”direct demoracy”, the initiative process is the power of the people to place measures on a statewide ballot. These measures can either create or change laws and amend the constitution. If the initiative proposes to create or change a California Laws, proponents must gather petition signatures of registered voters equal in number to five percent of the voters cast for all candidates for Governor in the most recent gubernatorial election. If the initiative proposes to amend the California Constitution, proponents must gather for all candidates for Governor in the most recent gubernatoral election. To be enacted. an initiative requires a simple majority of the votes cast.

Following 9/11 attacks, Boxer authorized and fought for a bill to increase security in our transportation system at out ports as well as to provide assistance to local first responsers. She wrote the law allowing airline pilots with special training to carry gun in the cockpit, the law requiring that air marshalls are on board high-risk flights, and the law that insures California’s entire rail system is eligible for security grants to protect against possible terrorist atacks.
